|iPad 2 - i hardly knew thee.|
That's right, dear readers. I jumped into the Apple tree, grabbed an iPad from the 16gb branch and returned it less than 3 hours later without so much as taking it out of the shopping bag.
So let's go back and see why i jumped into the Apple tree to begin with.
As most of you know, I'm a photographer (portrait and events) so my main reason for wanting the iPad was for business purposes. I could make paperless contracts! I could use Square as a register! I could have a full portfolio at my fingertips!
Also, I have been using an iPad in the school I substitute teach for the past 3 weeks and fell in love with how child friendly it is. However, I have no children...so this was probably just me being amazed by how kids react to the device.
After months - yes, I said months - of trying to decide if I wanted the iPad at all, I decided yesterday that yes...yes I want one.
So today after work, the Boyfriend and I went to Target to get to iPad.
2.5 hours later, I went back and returned it.
Here are the reasons that made my decision to return possible:
I can get an Android tablet or a Kindle Fire for a lot cheaper. They are not from the Apple tree, but they are still from the Orchard. They work.
2. Square works on my phone.
I wanted the iPad to be my mobile register for Square...but my phone uses square just fine! If it ain't broken, don't fix it!
3. Gallery is cool, but I get most my clients from facebook, anyway.
I figured I could use the awesome screen for a mobile portfolio...but when i get most my inquiries from Facebook and website referrals who say they "love what they saw!" I can assume that a mobile gallery is no longer needed. When I meet people, its usually already to sign a contract!
4. Shopping habits.
If you know me personally, then you already know that when i want to buy something...I buy it. New phone? Bought it! New camera? Bought it!
I usually spend a day or two deciding if i want something new, then go off and buy it.
If it is over a certain price, I will think about it for a week, obsess over it by researching every corner of the internet for info, then buy it.
I had been thinking of the iPad for months...and went to Target twice on the last week to buy it only to walk out twice empty handed.
That is not something I do when i want something!
That should've been flag number one.
Flag number two was when I didn't even take the iPad out of the bag when I got home. I was almost afraid to get it out of the bag. No idea why!
Needless to say, I still think its a great device. If i had kids, I'm sure I would've kept it based solely on the cool kid geared apps.
But for now, its back in the Target display case...ready for someone who wants it.
Has anyone else done this before?
